These are undertaken by me – Nick Jones. I am a fire risk assessor, equipped with years of experience, study and training.
My fire risk assessment method includes:
A brief consultation via email or phone prior to the site-visit
A site-visit to include an inspection of all relevant areas and rooms
A further brief consultation via email or phone (or in person on-site)
Preparation and submission of the final assessment report by email
Details of what this project involves are outlined below. However, be free to request further information or a quotation, by emailing me.
A fire risk assessment is a legal requirement for any non-domestic premises in England and Wales, including the communal parts of blocks of flats and the communal parts of houses in multiple occupation.
The fire risk assessment needs to be reviewed and revised when necessary.
For comprehensive guidance regarding fire risk assessments of various types of premises, please refer to documents to which the links are below. These are the documents on which I base my fire risk assessing and my resultant recommendations.
For commercial premises, the process involves a minimum of:
An inspection of all areas of the building or site
A consultation to determine the existing fire-safety strategy and maintenances of the building
The preparation of the final report
For residential buildings, the process involves a minimum of:
Consultation (by phone is often sufficient)
An inspection of all communal areas of the building
A brief inspection of a sample flat-entrance door
A check of the type of smoke/heat alarm within a sample flat-entrance hallway
The preparation of the final report
Depending on what we find and on which level of fire risk assessment is required, further inspection and investigation may be necessary, but this is unlikely in most cases.
A fire risk assessment does not include a test or service of any fire-safety items within the premises assessed, and does not include the supply/installation of any fire-safety equipment, but it will often include an assessment of the design/layout of such items.
A completed fire risk assessment report is not a certificate that your building or site is then safe. The report will normally contain recommendations (in grouped priority-levels) that when acted upon, will increase the level of fire-safety and lower the fire-safety risk within the building. Where possible, I ensure that my recommendations are balanced; that the cost and effort of acting upon them is proportionate to the fire-safety advantage gained. It is also important to remember that it is not possible to achieve zero risk.
I cannot enforce any recommendations I may make; they are for your Responsible Person to consider and act upon.
In order for me to provide a quotation, I will request that you kindly provide me with as many of the following details as you are able:
Name, address and post-code of the building/site
Whether the assessment is to be of the whole building or of a section within it
And for the section to be assessed:
A brief description of its purpose or main use (block of flats, factory, office, care home etc)
The number of storeys (ground floor and above) (outline if any mezzanine floors)
Whether it has an attic or basement
The number of internal and external staircases
The number of final fire exits on the ground floor
We provide brief, simple and clear demonstrations/training to our existing customers in the use of fire extinguishers, the use of the fire alarm panel, and in how to carry out in-house checks/tests of the fire safety equipment as per the servicing schedules and when section which can be accessed using the button below.
We are always happy to provide fire-safety advice to new and existing customers. This service is often free, although we may need to charge a fee if a site-visit or extensive time is required.
